Porbandar is situated on the western coast of Saurastra facing the Arabian Sea. Porbandar is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi - The Father of the Nation. Kirti Mandir is the major attraction for tourist where Putlibai, Gandhiji's mother, had given birth to Gandhiji. Behind Kirti Mandir is Navi Khadi, where Kasturba, Gandhiji's wife was born. Sandwiched in between Veraval and Dwarka is the beautiful Porbandar beach.

Kirti Mandir is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born here on 2nd October, 1869. Lacs of Indian tourists visit the house of the Mahatma and Kasturba. The new temple built by Nanji Kalidas is 79 ft high in remembrance of Gandhiji'sageat the time of his death. Every evening 79 lamps are lit in the temple.
Bharat Mandir temple of Sudama, Sri Krishna's friend during the childhood days is also good place to visit. In the evening you can visit the Nehru Planetarium opposite to Bharat Mandir.
Porbandar beach is one of the beautiful sandy beach.
Also buses are available from porbandar to reach Dwarka and Somnath. |
